3 Canadian Cities Make Top 10 List of places to Live

August 22, 2012

vancouver skylineAnyone hoping that Vancouver would make a triumphant to the top of the Global Livability Survey is going to have to wait until next time.

The Economist Intelligence Unit released their liveability ranking of cities around the world this week and little has changed in the top tier of the 140 cities surveyed from the 2011 edition. Melbourne stills reigns supreme with Vienna snagging a silver medal. The top five is rounded out by a Canadian triple threat of Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary, ranking third, fourth and fifth respectively.

According to the EIU website, the score and ranking of the top 65 cities remained identical to six month ago.

Devoted followers of the Global Livability Survey will recall that Vancouver was knocked from its perch on the top of the list by Melbourne in 2011, falling to number three. This abruptly ended a five year stay at number one and some Vancouverites felt like the drop was unjustified.

But regardless of the position of the Canadian cities in the top 10, it’s amazing to see so many represented within the top tier of the ranking.

Here’s a full rundown of the top 10:

1. Melbourne, Australia
2. Vienna, Austria
3. Vancouver, Canada
4. Toronto, Canada
5. Calgary, Canada
6. Adelaide, Australia
7. Sydney, Australia
8. Helsinki, Finland
9. Perth, Australia
10. Auckland, New Zealand
